Spring Book Fair
Our SJPS Media Department partnered with Forever Books to hold our first ever local virtual book fair! The event opened on Friday, May 7th and will run through Friday, May 21st. Please click here to learn more about this event.

Daily Health Screening
Thank you for your continued adherence to our daily screening guide posted on our district website before sending your child to school. If he/she is exhibiting any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, they must stay home. It is imperative that we work together to safe safe so that we can stay together.
If someone in your home is awaiting results of a COVID-19 test, all students need to stay home from school until the results are in. Thank you for your attention to this.

This week's learning:
P2: For our positivity project this week we will be focusing on the character strength of Forgiveness "You forgive those who have done wrong, you accept that people make mistakes."
ELA/Writing: This week we will finish up our reader's theater practicing our fluency, public speaking, and comprehension skills along with beginning our end-of-year reviewing and assessments. Throughout the week we will work on essential skills we have practiced this the year(main idea/key details, making inferences,creating judgments,non-fiction text structures, ect.)
Students will continue to research for their informational writing this week, and start writing their rough draft.
Math: We will take our Unit 7 Test on Monday. The test was moved due to NWEA testing taking longer than expected. Following our test we will begin our final unit for Math.
Lessons for the week:
Monday: Multi-step number stories
Tuesday: Applying additive nature of angle measuring to real-life situations
Wednesday: Measuring pattern-block angles and use previous knowledge of angles to determine unknown angle measurements.
Thursday: Line of symmetry; creating symetric shapes
Friday: Line plots and adding and subtracting mixed numbers based on data.
Social Studies: This week we will focus on learning about how our federal government is organized. Big ideas from these lessons are:
- The Framers of the Constitution were afraid of giving one group or one person in government too much power.
- They limited the power of the federal government by separating or dividing power among three groups or branches of government.
- The three branches are known as the legislative branch, the executive branch and the judicial branch.
- Each branch has a different function and its own special powers.
Science: We will complete our second chain reaction machine this week, creating a 5 step chain reaction using our previous project. We will then begin our next lesson on Electrical Energy.
Homework: Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home and continued practice on multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year. Students can also work on Lexia Core 5 at home to ensure they finish their required units each week.
