Count Day

Wednesday is count day! This is an important day for our school in regards to funding. Please do everything you can to limit non-urgent appointments on this day. Of course, if your child is ill or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, please keep him/her safe at home.

Valentine's Day

February 14th is quickly approaching and of course, things this year will be a little different.  It just so happens that the 14th is on a Sunday this year and students do not have school on Friday the 12th or on Monday the 15th.  So, hold off on the candy and packaged valentines, here is the plan...

During the week of February 8 - 11, our Positivity Project (P2) activities will be focused on "Love."  Their definition of love is that you value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships.

Classes will have activities and lessons throughout the week that will take the place of the traditional card exchange.  No need to send anything in from home, we will handle it all in-house.

If you want to look ahead at family activities and connections for that week, remember you can access the P2 for Families at https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/  The password is P2.

Check out this video from Mrs. Van Hekken and please get those permission slips in ASAP!

Our annual Lego Night is going virtual!  Visit our Lego Night page for activities and to see the challenge - as with in-person Lego Nights, we have a variety of prizes available to win!

This week's learning:

Positivity Project (P2): This week we will be focusing on the character strength of "love" - You value close relationships with others and being close to people. We will work on how to use this strength in school with friendships and at home.

ELA: In ELA we will continue our work on focus on making inferences and drawing conclusions. We will work to identify evidence in a text to support a reasonable conclusion and make inferences to understand ideas implied by not stated in a text. We will continue this skill with the features of fairy tales.

Looking to help your child connect what they are learning in school at home? Click on the image below and check out the activities:

Writing: This week we are continuing our persuasive writing unit. This week we will be focusing on writing a conclusion, adding examples and adding anecdotes.

Math:  We are continuing our multi-digit multiplication unit. You may seen that the home link packet is out of order; we have decided to re-structure the unit to better teach and extend the concepts within this unit. They are in the order that we will be teaching each concept in class - you can find the schedule of lessons we will teach each day this week below so you can plan which pages to work on to extend the skill from that day. Please continue to work on mastering single digit multiplication fact fluency at home each night (this can be done with flash cards, using an online program or any other method that words well for your child).

Monday: Continue Lesson 4-6 (due to snow day on Friday)
Tuesday: Lesson 4-9 work with partial products and multiply 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers
Wednesday: Lesson 4-11 finding the area of rectangles and other figures using multi-digit computation
Thursday: 4-12 solving multi-step problems and use estimates to assess the reasonableness of their answers
Friday: No School

Social Studies:  This week we will continue our work with human characteristics in the United States. Using maps, Google Earth, and other resources we will explore how different areas have different characteristics as well as how human and physical characteristics are connected.

Have a great week!

Mr. Hernandez
