Attention 4th & 5th Grade Families
We need your help to keep students safe. When dropping off and picking up your child from the north side of the building (along Yukon Dr.), DO NOT park across the street and ask your child to cross the road. Please follow the drop off/pick-up line as described in the image below. Thank you for your attention to this.
Daily Screener
Thank you for your continued adherence to our daily screening guide posted on our district's website before sending your child to school. If he/she is exhibiting any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, they must stay home. It is imperative that we work together to safe safe so that we can stay together.
If someone in your home is awaiting results of a COVID-19 test, all students need to stay home from school until the results are in. Thank you for your attention to this.

Learning This Week
P2 Positivity Project: This week we will be focusing on the character strength of Identifying Good In Others.
ELA & Writing: This week we will be working on our nonfiction text structure of compare and contrasting through pictures and text. We will practice and identify how authors use this structure to describe an event (cause) and the results or events that follow (effect).
Science: We began our new unit last week on energy. This week we will continue with understanding how all objects that move have energy. Through an experiment your student will discover how energy can be stored and transferred. We will also explore how to change the amount of energy that is released be designing a roller coaster.
Social Studies: In social studies we will continue exploring the impact immigration has on the United States. We will focus on how:
- Immigrants bring their culture to the country; traditions, foods, language, music, values and beliefs
-Regions where different ethnic groups settled
-Cultural influences ethnic groups have on these regions
-How immigration has lead to cultural diversity in the United States
Math: This week we will begin our week by taking our Unit 6 test (the study guide came home on Thursday) and then will be starting our next unit (we are going back to Unit 5 to learn more about fractions and mixed numbers).
Monday: Unit 6 Test
Tuesday: Lesson 5-1: I can decompose fractions into sums of fractions with the same denominator.
Wednesday: Lesson 5-2: I can find the whole when given a fractional part.
Thursday: Lesson 5-3: I can add fractions (of the same whole, with like denominators) to solve number stories.
Friday: Review/Catch Up Day
Looking to extend your child's learning in math at home?
I highly recommend having them work on Khan Academy (we use this in class)! Students have access to the assignments that I've put onto Khan Academy for them (they use these during our math workshop time) and they can also work on their "course mastery." Khan Academy will continue to work them through 4th grade concepts and beyond (for those students who are ready to begin learning skills beyond the elementary level) and provides video explanations to help them work through the content. They also have courses to practice reading and language arts, computer programing.
