Daily Screener
Thank you for your continued adherence to our daily screening guide posted on our district's website before sending your child to school. If he/she is exhibiting any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, they must stay home. It is imperative that we work together to safe safe so that we can stay together.
This week's learning:
Positivity Project (P2): This coming week we will be focusing on the character strength of "Other People Matter - Cheer Others' Successes" - You are happy for others and you cheer them on when they find success.
ELA: This week, we will be continuing to focus on evaluating the author's purpose and summarizing information. We will practice this skill with the goals of being able to use our understanding of genre features to evaluate the author’s purpose, and summarize and synthesize a tall tale text.

Writing: This week we are continuing to wrap up our persuasive writing. We will use the next week or so to revise and edit our writing for our author's celebration during the first weeks of March.
Math: This week we will be focusing on reviewing all of our unit 4 math concepts (multi-digit multiplication, multistep word problems and area/perimeter). On Thursday, we will skip ahead to Unit 6 (we will come back around to Unit 5 later this year) where we will focus on division and angles.
Monday: Lesson 4-5 continued: I can use multiplication and division to solve a multistep word problem.
Tuesday: Review Day
Wednesday: Unit 4 Test
Thursday: Lesson 6-1: I can find a rule for solving extended division facts.
Friday: Lesson 6-3: I can solve division number stories using familiar multiples.
Looking to extend your child's learning in math at home?
I highly recommend having them work on Khan Academy (we use this in class)! Students have access to the assignments that I've put onto Khan Academy for them (they use these during our math workshop time) and they can also work on their "course mastery." Khan Academy will continue to work them through 4th grade concepts and beyond (for those students who are ready to begin learning skills beyond the elementary level) and provides video explanations to help them work through the content. They also have courses to practice reading and language arts, computer programming (Pixar in a Box has historically been very popular with students in my classroom!), growth mindset, careers and much more!
Social Studies: This week we will be learning about the United States in spatial terms. Big ideas from this lesson are:
- Special purpose maps show characteristics of an area such as elevation, climate, and population density.
- Elevation is the how high a place is above sea level.
- Climate is weather over a long period of time.
- The climate of an area is influenced by many factors including how close the area is to a large body of water, how far it is from the equator, and the elevation of the area.
- Population density is the number of people living in a certain area.
- Elevation, climate, and population density vary a great deal in the United States.
