This week's learning:

ELA: This week we will work on identifying clues and creating inferences based on the text. This is an ongoing skill to practice as your student will use different texts and pictures to find this information. Students will also read about a volcano eruption in Indonesia that occurred in 1815. We will use this non-fiction text in small groups to focus on individualized skills for each group.


Math: Our unit will be wrapped up this week with working on lines of symmetry, and by focusing on identifying patterns in various types of equations. It is imperative that your child continues to practice their multiplication fact fluency (facts 0 through 12) each night to develop automaticity with multiplication and division facts. Automaticity with multiplication and division facts is one of the most valuable math tools that students can acquire!

Math learning the week:
Monday: Lesson 2-12 Identifying lines of symmetry
Tuesday: Lesson 2-13 Finding Patterns
Wednesday: Unit 2 study guide comes home today
Thursday: Review day
Friday: Unit 2 Test

Science: This week in science we will continue our study of volcanoes. Your child will learn about different kinds of volcanoes and how the thickness of the lava can explain the shape and eruption pattern of the volcanoes. Using lava made out of water and flour, they will test how different lavas create different shapes and trap gases differently. We will solve the mystery, “Why do some volcanoes explode?
