Young Authors and Artists - due May 10th

All students are welcome to submit written or art work to our annual Bear Tracks! Bear Tracks is a full-color book showcasing student’s work.  Each participating student will receive their own copy of Bear Tracks.

Accepted works include:

• Poetry

• Short stories (no more than 500 words)

• Songs

• Word Art

• Cartoons

• Drawings

• Paintings

• Any other written or art work that can be digitally submitted and shared in a print format.

Guidelines:

• Please proofread all work before submission

• Inappropriate content will not be accepted

• Students may accept up to two projects.  Please note that both projects will be printed on the same page.

• Artwork must fit an 8.5”x11” format.  

• Enjoy expressing yourself artistically!

Parking Lot Safety

For the safety of all of our students and their families, please exercise patience and follow the procedures (posted below for your reference) when dropping off and picking up your child daily. 

Students MUST NOT cross Yukon Drive in front of traffic to enter/exit the school. 

In addition, adults and students must always use the crosswalks while entering/exiting the school during drop-off and pick-up times. 

Keeping our students safe is our collective responsibility. Thank you for your attention to this important reminder. 

2021 Ren Baldwin Student Technology Showcase

The 2021 Tech Fest website opened Friday at 12:00 p.m. Students received certificates and ribbons at school, as well as a note to share with parents with the festival website address.  Be sure to check out our students' creativity here:

The festival is entirely asynchronous this year, and all information will be on the website.  Thank you for your support of tech fest and congratulations to all of the winners and students who shared their creativity with us this year.

P2: This week we will be focusing on the character strength of Curiosity: "You like exploration and discovery. You ask lots of questions because you want to learn more about anything and everything."

ELA & Writing: This week we will continue to focus on the comprehension strategy of making judgements and asking questions. Students will identify the judgment an author makes in a passage and identify evidence that supports the judgment.

We will continue working on our informational writing this week. Students have narrowed down their topics and began creating their subtopics and deciding which text structure they would like to use for their writing.

Math:  We will complete our math unit this week and have two review days  before the test on Friday. Keep an eye out on Wednesday for the study guide to come home. Our lessons for the week are:

Monday: I can convert between fractions and decimals to solve number stories.

Tuesday: I can record data on a line plot and answer questions regarding the data.

Wednesday: Review Day

Thursday: Review Day

Friday: Test Day

Homework: Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home and continued practice on multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year. Students can also work on Lexia Core 5 at home to ensure they finish their required units each week.

Social Studies: On Tuesday, we will be attending our first "field trip!" Since we are unable to go on field trips this year, we will still be able to do our Michigan Capitol Tour field trip virtually! We are so excited to learn more about our state Capitol this week!.

We will continue working on our unit learning about our federal government this week. This week we will focus on learning about the powers that our government has. Big ideas from these lessons are:

• In the United States, the government is based on the idea of popular sovereignty which means that the ultimate power belongs to the people in our government. 
• The people agreed to delegate some of their power to the federal government and expressed this in the Constitution.
• All other powers not given to the federal government in the Constitution are reserved to the states or the people. 
• In a few cases, certain powers like making laws and collecting taxes are shared by both federal and state governments.
• The system of delegating, reserving, and sharing of power explained in the Constitution serves to limit the power of government.
