Week 7 October 19

Hey Families! It was an absolute pleasure to meet with all of you this past week. I greatly appreciate everyone taking time out of their day to talk with me. Please take a look at this weeks blog for some important information.

Online Resources and Homework

While I still want to stress that I do not want students to be overloaded with work to complete at home, I have seen that our students need some extra help and resources after school. Until our students get their own device, I would like to encourage families to have your student work on Lexia Core 5, and IXL throughout the week. I have included some IXL strands below that will align with our current unit. Please also remember to practice multiplication facts through 12 as we begin transitioning into multiplication. 15 minutes a day will be very beneficial and fluency with multiplication will be crucial for math this year!

Fall Party

Through these tough times we want to make sure our students can continue to enjoy being a child. With that in mind we are planning on still having a fall celebration with costumes October 30th. Here are some general guidelines for this year!

• Students are welcome to wear costumes all day.  Families should use good judgement regarding costumes knowing that students will be working in them throughout the school day (we ask to leave the bulkier pieces of the costume at home).  
• Masks, as required daily in the school setting, will still be required for safety reasons. Students will not be able to wear a costume mask instead. As per usual, no gore, weapons or "weapon like" items should come to school.
• In lieu of a traditional Halloween parade, we will take pictures and share them on our closed PTO FB page and in our blogs. 

Unfortunately,volunteers will not be able to come into the building to help, but I will coordinate different activities for our class to enjoy! If you would like to help in any way please fill out the google form below! (Please feel free to add any suggested activities) Fall Party Sign Up

Learning this Week

ELA: This week we will continue working with biographies through our reader's theater. Students will each get a part and practice throughout the week, then preform their part on Friday. Students will work on their speed and pacing with their reading fluency, evaluate the purpose of the author, build their comprehension through preforming, and continue to expand their vocabulary. This reader's theater book will be a selection from Eleanor Roosevelt and Marian Anderson.

Math: Student's will begin transitioning this week into reviewing their subtraction skills, converting different units of measurement, and reviewing and explore the different properties of points, line segments, lines, and rays.

Social Studies: We will begin our first unit of social studies this week! This week we will explore how to think and examine different informational pieces. Students will learn how to think like a historian, geographer, exploring political science, and how to think like an economist. 

Science: In science we are continuing our unit on sound waves. Students this week will explore how there are different sizes of sound waves and how their different amplitudes are directly correlated with the different tones of sound.
